How to play
A duel is a race to knock your rival from 100 health to zero using League knowledge. Every round is one question; right answers hit, fast right answers hit harder.
A round, step by step
- 1
Get ready
1.2s
The round number and phase flash up. The question loads behind it.

Answer
15s
Read, then press 1–4 (or click). The sooner you lock in, the harder your hit.
- 3
Lock in
→ 5s
The moment you lock in, your rival has at most 5 seconds left. Same for you if they're first.
- 4
Reveal
2.6s
Correct answers hit your rival; wrong ones backfire on you. Both players can land a hit in the same round.

Questions get tougher every round until someone hits zero.
Damage
A correct answer deals 8 damage plus up to 6 for speed, sliding to 0 at the buzzer. The first correct answer of the round adds 4 (“first strike”). A wrong answer backfires for the same amount, without the bonus. In a duel the screen shows Hit now and Miss: what you'd deal, or take, if you locked in this instant. Try it:
Damage
17(8 base + 4.8 speed + 4 first) × 1

Phases
×1
Laning
Rounds 1–5. All damage, including backfires, is multiplied.
×1.5
Mid game
Rounds 6–10. All damage, including backfires, is multiplied.
×2
Elder
Round 11+. All damage, including backfires, is multiplied.
Mistakes
Backfire
A wrong answer hits you instead: you take the damage you'd have dealt. Only answer when you're more sure than not.
½
Ability questions: the right champion with the wrong key deals half damage, no first strike.
0
Running out of time costs nothing in a duel, but you don't hit either.
Question types
- Ability icon
- See an ability icon. Pick the champion, then the key (Q W E R).
- Ability sound
- On by default (you can turn it off before you queue): hear an ability, pick the champion, then the key.
- Splash art
- Whose skin is it? Starts zoomed in deep on a random spot and zooms out until the whole picture shows at 0s.
- Item recipe
- Two or three components. Which finished item do they build into?
- Item cost
- How much gold does this item cost?
- Not part of it
- A finished item and four components: three are in its build tree. Which one isn't?
- Stat check
- Four champions: who has the most attack range, armor, health or move speed?
- Resource
- Which of these champions doesn't use mana?
Modes
- Ranked duel
- Matched against a player near your rating. Win LP, climb from Iron to Challenger. If few people are online, you may face a computer rival or a recorded run of a real player.
- Friend duel
- Create an invite link on the Play page and send it. LP counts (losing to a lower-rated friend costs more), up to 5 rated duels per friend a day (never with a guest), or switch LP off to play for fun. Hit Rematch afterwards to go again.
- Survival
- Solo. 100 health, every miss or timeout costs 15 (more in later phases). Your score is the damage you deal before you fall.
- Daily survival
- Survival on today's quizzes, as often as you like. Everyone's first run uses the same quiz, every second run another, and so on. Your best run counts.
Ranks
Your first 3 ranked duels are placements. After that, every 100 rating is a division and your LP is what's left over. Your rating learns from every answer, not just the result: hard questions answered right and fast count most. A win always gives at least 5 LP and a loss always costs at least 5; beating stronger players pays more, and while you're better than your rank, wins pay more and losses cost less.
From 2800 rating you're Master. Grandmaster and Challenger work like in League: the top 50 players with at least 500 LP are Challenger, the next 100 with at least 200 LP are Grandmaster. The ladder shows how much LP it takes right now.
